Camp Director Ginger Miller Chaffinch
Ginger Chaffinch is in her fifth season as the head coach at Georgia College & State University. Chaffinch guided GCSU to one of the finest seasons in school history in 2008 advancing the NCAA South Atlantic Regional, just falling short of the NCAA DII National Tournament. The Lady Bobcats finished first in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament and finished the season with a 40-14 overall mark and a 12-6 conference record. Chaffinch also guided the Lady Bobcats to a No. 4 national ranking, the highest in school history. The 40 win season put GCSU with seven straight 30+ games winning seasons.
GCSU had its sixth 30-win season in 2007, taking third in the Peach Belt at 35-21 and earned an NCAA Regional Tournament bid. The 35 wins were the third-highest win total in GCSU history. Chaffinch picked up her 100th career victory in the win over North Georgia College & State University April 12, 2007. Chaffinch also guided the first two-time All-American in school history last season, third baseman Keidra Baitey. Chaffinch's overall record entering 2009 is 144-65.
As the interim head coach in 2005, she led GCSU to a 24-17 overall record and a 12-8 league mark to finish third in the Peach Belt Conference. Chaffinch served as the assistant coach for the Lady Bobcats in 2004. Prior to her arrival in Milledgeville, she spent two years as an assistant coach at St. Andrew's Presbyterian College in Laurinburg, N.C.
Originally from Wingate, N.C., Chaffinch is no stranger to the Peach Belt Conference as she graduated from Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C., where she was a four-year starter in the outfield for the Patriots. She earned All-Region honors as a senior and set an FMU single season record with 21 doubles. She graduated from FMU in 2001 with a bachelor's degree in political science.
In the summer of 2002, Chaffinch traveled with World Sport International, playing international competition in Holland, Germany and Czechoslovakia. Chaffinch also serves as GCSU's Senior Woman Administrator. She and her husband Chris reside in Milledgeville.
Assistant Coach Katie Linke
The Georgia College & State University softball program and head coach Ginger Chaffinch have announced the hire of Katie Linke as assistant coach.
Linke comes to Milledgeville from an assistant spot at Concordia University, an NAIA program in Seward, Neb. She served the Bulldogs as assistant coach for two seasons. In 2008, the team finished 31-11, good enough for at trip to the the NAIA Region III Tournament.
“Katie has a lot of great experience both playing at Nebraska and coaching at Concordia,” said Chaffinch. “We are excited to have her.”
Linke was a three-year letterwinner at the University of Nebraska, taking Second Team Academic All-Big 12 honors in 2005.
