About the Camp
We are looking forward to another great individual basketball camp this summer! GCSU players and many very successful high school coaches will be our staff. You can expect to build confidence in your basketball ability through game situations and constant motivation. Each camper will be coached in the fundamentals of basketball and be taught to apply these fundamentals in personal and team practice, as well as in game situations. The camp will also provide a disciplined, enthusiastic and highly organized atmosphere with the intention of inspiring each camper to work hard toward becoming the best possible basketball player she can be.
All sessions will be held on the Georgia College & State University campus in Milledgeville. Housing will be in GCSU's new, world-class, suite-style residence halls, adjacent to the air-conditioned Centennial Center arena. Meals will be served in the campus dining hall.
Each camper will receive a free t-shirt, and will need to bring the following items with them if they are overnight campers:
- Bed sheets, pillow, and pillow case
- Toiletries
- Basketball shoes
- At least 2 pair of shorts
- 4 t-shirts
- 4 pair of socks
- Towel and wash cloth
Morning sessions will be spent on basketball fundamentals with several different work stations. The afternoons will be devoted to team concepts and practice, with some games taking place. All evening sessions will be spent playing games on the three Centennial Center courts.
CHECK IN WILL BE HELD AT THE CENTENNIAL CENTER FOR ALL CAMPERS (day and overnight) between 5pm and 6pm on July 5th. Your first meal will be at breakfast on July 6th. Camp will begin at 6pm on July 5th and conclude at 5pm on July 8th.
We encourage you to make plans to join us for another productive and exciting summer on the campus of GCSU!

Camp Director Maurice Smith
Camp Director Maurice Smith "Coach Mo" has spent over 10 years at Georgia College, arriving first as a player in 1999 after two seasons at Wallace Community College in Alabama. He was an All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Second Team selection in 2001 for the Bobcats, after playing a sixth-man role on the best team in program history, the 1999-2000 Elite Eight squad.
He then joined the coaching ranks, first as a student assistant for men’s basketball in 2003-04 while pursuing his master’s degree. He then continued on as a graduate assistant coach for two seasons from 2004-06. Smith moved to the women’s side the next season in 2006-07 as the assistant coach and has worked with Bobcat women’s basketball program since.
Success has followed Smith at Georgia College, as a player on the top team in program history in 1999-2000, the team went 25-6, winning the PBC Championship and the NCAA South Atlantic Region title. As a graduate assistant coach on the men’s staff in 2005-06, Smith helped guide the team to a 22-9 record, another PBC Championship and a trip to the NCAA Sweet 16.
While with the women’s program, the team record has been a combined 72-44 (.621), including two 20-win seasons in 2006-07 and 2009-10. The 2006-07 team advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16, while this past season, the Bobcats won the PBC West Division Championship.
Smith finished his undergraduate degree in 2001, adding a master’s in 2006.
